Why Emirati authorities require this.

A Florida-issued divorce decree heading to United Arab Emirates needs to be authenticated through the apostille process before Emirati authorities will accept it. The apostille is the international standard set by the 1961 Hague Convention for authenticating foreign documents — and United Arab Emirates has been a member since 2024, so the Florida apostille is the only authentication required (no consular legalization).

The Florida Department of State in Tallahassee is the only authority that can apostille a Florida-issued divorce decree. The state's standard mail-in processing time is 5–7 weeks. Our service walks every document in person to the FL DOS apostille counter — 5–7 business days from the moment we receive your divorce decree.

For United Arab Emirates-bound submissions specifically, additional requirements apply beyond the apostille itself. See the next section for Emirati-specific requirements — translation, document freshness, consular submission — that often catch applicants by surprise.

Beyond the apostille — United Arab Emirates's rules.

The UAE became a Hague Convention member in 2024, so a Florida apostille is now the appropriate authentication for U.S. documents heading to the UAE. Certified Arabic translation by an Emirati-approved translator is required for nearly all official submissions. Translation is performed after the apostille is applied, typically by translators on the UAE Ministry of Justice approved list.

UAE document freshness rules are strict: FBI background checks must be dated within three months for visa applications, and even diplomas and marriage certificates are sometimes re-requested if older than six months. The UAE Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) publish current requirements, but they change periodically — confirm before paying for apostille and translation.

Common questions.

Yes. The UAE requires certified Arabic translation by a translator on the UAE Ministry of Justice approved list. Florida-based Arabic translators are generally not on this list. Translation is performed after the apostille is applied, usually in the UAE.
The UAE typically requires FBI/FDLE background checks dated within three months of visa submission. Vital records (birth, marriage) should be within six months. The UAE's rules have been tightening — confirm current requirements with the UAE Embassy or your UAE employer's PRO (Public Relations Officer) before paying.
There's no UAE consulate in Florida — the UAE Embassy and Consulate General is in Washington D.C. (3522 International Court NW). For most Florida applicants, the workflow is: apostille in Florida, mail or fly the documents to the UAE for translation and submission to the relevant UAE authority through the employer's PRO or directly.
No — the UAE joined the Hague Convention in 2024. Before that, U.S. documents required consular legalization at the UAE Embassy in Washington D.C., a multi-step and more expensive process. The current apostille-only route is much simpler.
