Florida documents, accepted in Costa Rica.

Costa Rica accepts Hague apostilles, and the requests we see most for Costa Rica involve residency (pensionado/rentista), property. Whatever the process on the receiving end, the Florida side is the same: the document must carry a Florida apostille from the Department of State in Tallahassee — which is exactly what we file, in person, every business day.

Two rules save Costa Rica-bound customers the most time. First: the apostille certifies the Florida document — Costa Rica's authorities may separately require a certified translation, which is done after the apostille so the certificate itself is translated too. Second: vital records must be certified originals (state Bureau of Vital Statistics or county Clerk), never photocopies.

From anywhere in the U.S.: order online, we email a pre-paid FedEx QR code, and your document is filed at the state counter and returned apostilled in 5–7 business days — $190 per document, state fee and shipping included. In South Florida or Tampa Bay, drop off by appointment instead.

Common questions.

Yes — Costa Rica is a Hague Apostille Convention member. A Florida apostille from the Department of State is accepted without embassy legalization.
The apostille itself is a standardized multilingual certificate. Whether the underlying document needs a certified translation depends on the receiving authority in Costa Rica — when required, translate after apostilling so the certificate is covered too.
We apostille Florida-issued and Florida-notarized documents. A document from another state needs that state's apostille — but any document can be notarized by a Florida notary (including online) and then apostilled here.
$190 per document all-in — state fee, application, and FedEx both ways included. 5–7 business days door to door. Bundles: $300 for two documents, $130 each for three or more.
