Florida divorce records for foreign use.

Floridians apostille divorce decrees most often for foreign remarriage (most countries require proof of a finalized prior divorce before issuing a new marriage license), foreign citizenship applications (especially Italian jure sanguinis cases where divorce records affect the line of descent or name history), international child custody and support cases (where Florida divorce orders need to be recognized or enforced abroad), and foreign property division (where assets located abroad were addressed in the Florida divorce judgment).

Florida divorce decrees are issued by the Clerk of Court in the county where the divorce was finalized — not by the state. Only the certified copy of the final judgment with the embossed clerk's seal can be apostilled. Photocopies, attorney-prepared summaries, and uncertified copies cannot be apostilled. Two related documents sometimes get confused: the Final Judgment of Dissolution of Marriage (the actual court order from the Clerk of Court) and the Report of Dissolution (a summary record sometimes issued by the Florida Bureau of Vital Statistics for divorces filed since 1972). Either can be apostilled, but for most foreign uses — foreign remarriage, citizenship by descent, foreign property matters — the receiving institution requires the certified Final Judgment from the Clerk of Court.

We handle divorce decree apostilles with the same discretion as death certificates — confidentiality matters. If you need both a marriage certificate (showing the marriage) and a divorce decree (showing it ended) for foreign remarriage applications, bundle pricing applies: $300 for 2 documents.

When you need an apostilled divorce decree.

These are the most common reasons Floridians apostille their divorce decrees.

Foreign Remarriage

Marrying again in another country? Most foreign governments require an apostilled prior divorce decree before issuing a new marriage license. Italy, Spain, Portugal, Mexico, and the Caribbean — all standard.

Foreign Citizenship Applications

Italian, Polish, and other ancestral citizenship applications sometimes require apostilled divorce decrees in the line of descent — particularly where ancestor relationships, name changes, or remarriages affect the application.

International Custody & Support

Florida divorce judgments that include child custody, child support, or visitation orders need to be apostilled when seeking foreign enforcement or recognition of those orders under the Hague Convention on parental responsibility.

Foreign Property Division

When the Florida divorce judgment addressed property located abroad (real estate, bank accounts, business interests), the apostilled judgment is required to enforce or record that division in the foreign jurisdiction.

Name Restoration Abroad

Restoring your maiden name on foreign government records, banks, or property registries after divorce usually requires an apostilled divorce decree as proof of the name change.

Foreign Inheritance Matters

Foreign probate proceedings sometimes require apostilled divorce decrees to clarify marital status at the time of an inheritance event or to establish heirs' eligibility.

Pick the way that fits your life.

All three options end the same way — your apostilled documents back in your hands in 5–7 business days, filed in person at the Florida Department of State.

Common questions.

From the Clerk of Court in the county where the divorce was finalized. Most clerks offer online ordering through their official county portal. Cost is typically $10–$15 per certified copy. The certified Final Judgment is what you need for apostille — not a photocopy or attorney summary.
The Final Judgment of Dissolution of Marriage is the actual court order from the Clerk of Court that ends the marriage. The Report of Dissolution is a summary record sometimes issued by the Florida Bureau of Vital Statistics for divorces filed since 1972. For most foreign uses, you want the certified Final Judgment — that's the document foreign governments and consulates expect.
No — we only apostille Florida-issued documents. If your divorce was finalized in another state, you'll need to use that state's apostille service. The decree must be authenticated by the state that issued it.
It depends on what's sealed. If the entire judgment is under seal, you'll need to petition the court to unseal it before apostille is possible. If only certain exhibits or attachments are sealed, the main judgment can usually still be apostilled. Talk to your Florida attorney first.
Often, yes. Foreign remarriage applications usually want both: the prior marriage certificate (showing the marriage existed) and the divorce decree (showing it ended). Italian citizenship applications sometimes also request both. Bundle pricing: $300 for 2 documents.
5–7 business days from when we receive your certified divorce decree. The state's mail-in queue is 5–7 weeks; we walk every order in person to the Florida Department of State counter in Tallahassee.
