How a Florida divorce decree is used in Jordan

A Florida divorce decree is needed in Jordan to update civil status, to remarry there, and in custody, alimony or inheritance cases. Jordanian courts may examine whether the foreign divorce is final, so use the Clerk-certified final judgment of dissolution, not the petition. Order it from the Clerk of Court in the county that granted it. Plan for an Arabic translation, which in Jordan follows the same certification steps as the original.

Getting a divorce decree Florida will authenticate

A complete copy of the final judgment of dissolution of marriage, certified by the Clerk of Court with an original wet-ink certification or the clerk's official e-certification. The state fee is $20 ($10 apostille + $10 certificate of incumbency), already in our price. If the receiving country accepts the one-page dissolution certificate instead, it must be signed by the State Registrar or a Clerk of the County Court and certified in 2014 or later.

Request a certified copy of the final judgment from the clerk of the county where the divorce was granted, online, by mail or at the courthouse; Florida law sets the clerk's certification fee at $2 plus copy charges, usually $1 per page. The dissolution certificate (divorces from June 6, 1927 on) can be ordered from the Bureau of Vital Statistics or through VitalChek. These fees are not included in our $220.

State fee for this document: $20 — included in our price. Full details on the divorce decree page.

What happens after the Florida certificate — Jordan

After we return your document with its Florida authentication certificate, it must be authenticated by the U.S. Department of State before Jordan's embassy will accept it. The Legalization Section of the Embassy of Jordan in Washington, D.C. then legalizes it; the embassy uses Jordan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs e-portal for applications and payment. In Jordan, the document is certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice before it reaches the requesting authority. Diplomas and transcripts follow a separate route the embassy designates. We don't handle, arrange or refer anyone for these steps.

Who receives it in Jordan — and translation

In the U.S., the Legalization Section of the Embassy of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in Washington, D.C. legalizes documents after U.S. Department of State authentication. In Jordan, documents are then certified at the Documents Certification Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the Ministry of Justice certifies them too, before reaching the office that asked for them: the Civil Status and Passports Department, the courts, the Department of Lands and Survey, ministries or employers.

Jordan's Ministry of Justice says translations of foreign documents go through the same certification steps, in the same order, as the original, even if the original is already certified. So if you translate into Arabic in Florida, the translation should be certified by the translator, notarized by a different notary and authenticated in Florida, then follow the same chain. Ask the receiving office first whether it would rather have the translation made in Jordan. One exception: to add a child to the family book through the embassy, the embassy accepts an Arabic translation stamped by a certified translation office without separate authentication.

Jordan's embassy instructions don't set a document-age rule. Jordanian offices may want recent vital records and police checks, so ask the receiving office how recent each document must be.

Common questions

Yes. Jordan's Ministry of Justice says translations follow the same certification steps and order as the original.
The decree is the full court judgment; the certificate is a one-page vital record that summarizes it. For remarriage or civil-status updates abroad, many authorities want the full judgment, so ask the receiving office before you order.
Documents certified by a Florida Clerk of Court cost $20 at the state: $10 for the apostille plus $10 for a certificate of incumbency confirming the clerk. Our $220 price already includes it.
Yes. Choose international return at checkout: a flat $100 per order, tracked international shipping to any address in Jordan. Shipping inside the U.S. is included.
Apostilles only work between Hague Convention members, and Jordan is not one. Florida issues an authentication certificate instead; it then goes to the U.S. Department of State and the Jordan embassy or consulate.
