Quick answer

Italian citizens under 14 traveling without a parent use a specific Italian document, the dichiarazione di accompagnamento, issued by the Questura in Italy or by the consulate abroad, so a Florida consent letter won't replace it. One Florida apostille is all the U.S. side needs — $220, 5–7 business days.

Translation
Italian offices need an official Italian translation of English records, and the Miami consulate states that it does not translate documents.

Italian citizens under 14 traveling without a parent use a specific Italian document, the dichiarazione di accompagnamento, issued by the Questura in Italy or by the consulate abroad, so a Florida consent letter won't replace it. Florida consent letters matter mainly for children who aren't Italian citizens and are flying to Italy with one parent, a grandparent or a school group, where the airline or border officer may ask for the other parent's consent. If you want it apostilled, sign before a Florida notary with a complete certificate, then we file it.

A specific letter naming the child, the consenting parent or parents, the accompanying adult, the destination and the travel dates, signed before a Florida notary with a complete notarial certificate (venue, presence or online box, date, ID type, seal). Names must match each passport exactly, and the dates must cover the actual trip.

Draft the letter yourself (Florida law prescribes no form), then sign before any Florida notary or through our online notarization add-on, where each parent can sign separately from wherever they are: $40 for the first document ($10 notarization fee + $30 technology platform fee) and $20 for each additional document. Notarization is not included in our $220. Many trips need only a notarized letter, so confirm the apostille is actually required.

State fee for this document: $10 — included in our price. Full details on the child travel consent letter apostille page.

Who receives it in Italy — and translation

The Consulate General of Italy in Miami handles citizenship by descent and transcription of Florida births, marriages and divorces into the comune's civil records; applicants must live in its district. Citizenship by marriage is filed online with the Ministry of the Interior. Italian notai use powers of attorney and handle property and inheritances, the Agenzia delle Entrate receives inheritance declarations, and universities and CIMEA assess foreign degrees. Since Law 74/2025, citizenship-by-descent applications filed after March 27, 2025 face much narrower eligibility — confirm you qualify before preparing documents.

Italian offices need an official Italian translation of English records, and the Miami consulate states that it does not translate documents. Our general rule is a translation certified by the translator, notarized by a separate Florida notary and apostilled; ask the consulate whether it accepts that format or certifies translations itself. Courts and some comuni in Italy may instead require a translation sworn before an Italian court (asseverata). Translate after the apostille, including the apostille page.

Criminal-record certificates for citizenship by marriage are valid for six months from issue and must still be valid when you file. For descent files, the consulate wants every document in original in one complete submission, so order fresh vital records close to your appointment.

Common questions

Italian minors under 14 traveling without a parent use the dichiarazione di accompagnamento, issued by the Questura or the consulate. A notarized, apostilled Florida consent letter is useful mainly for non-Italian children.
No. Airlines and border officers are often satisfied with a notarized letter. You need the apostille when a foreign authority relies on it in a formal procedure, such as a dual-national child leaving that country or a passport or residency application filed abroad.
The parent or parents who are not traveling. If the child travels with neither parent, both sign. A parent with sole custody signs alone and carries the certified custody order.
Yes. Choose international return at checkout: a flat $100 per order, tracked international shipping to any address in Italy. Shipping inside the U.S. is included.
Not on the U.S. side — no embassy or consulate legalization. Italy may still ask for a translation; as a rule it should be certified by the translator, notarized and apostilled too.
