How a Florida driver's license copy is used in Venezuela

Venezuelan offices rarely need a Florida driver's license. For identity they expect a cédula or passport. A certified license copy may help as secondary proof of a Florida address, for instance when a Venezuelan bank or notary needs to see where a poder's signer lives. If someone asks for it, a Florida notary can certify a photocopy of both sides as a true copy, and the certification can be apostilled. Before you do that, ask whether a passport copy would satisfy them, since it usually does.

Getting a driver's license copy Florida will apostille

A front-and-back copy of your current license attached to your sworn statement, signed in front of a Florida notary who completes a jurat. If the foreign office wants your driving history instead, it needs FLHSMV's certified record, unaltered. The plastic card itself can't be apostilled.

Sign the sworn statement before any Florida notary or through our online notarization add-on: $40 for the first document ($10 notarization fee + $30 technology platform fee) and $20 for each additional document. For a certified driving record, order from FLHSMV online or with form HSMV 90511, which lists $10 and about two weeks of processing. Notarization and FLHSMV fees are not included in our $220.

State fee for this document: $10 — included in our price. Full details on the driver's license copy apostille page.

Who receives it in Venezuela — and translation

Births and marriages that happened abroad are recorded at the municipal registro civil offices. SAIME issues cédulas and passports once the birth is registered. Powers of attorney, property and companies go through notaries and registries under SAREN (Servicio Autónomo de Registros y Notarías), and estates involve the succession declaration filed with SENIAT. Venezuelan consular services in the U.S. have been disrupted for years, so check current availability before relying on a consulate.

Our standard for a translation is a translator's certification, notarized by a different notary, with its own Florida apostille. Venezuela may instead require an intérprete público: under the Ley de Intérpretes Públicos (2022), official translations with public faith are made by titled translators registered in the national registry kept by the Ministry of Interior, Justice and Peace. Ask the registro civil, notary or registry which version it accepts, and translate after the apostille.

We could not verify a general age limit for Florida documents in Venezuela. The clock that matters most is birth registration: the Chacao registry, for example, sets 90 days after the birth before a late-registration letter is needed.

Why driver's license copys get rejected

  • Notary stamp on a copy with no certificate wording
  • Statement signed before the notary session
  • Notarized in another state
  • Uncertified driving record printout

What it costs for Venezuela

$220 per document, $380 for two and $160 each for three or more — the state fee, request form, in-person filing in Tallahassee and FedEx shipping inside the U.S. are included. Shipping the finished apostille to Venezuela is a flat $100 per order.

Not included: whatever the issuing office charges for the certified copy or certificate, and notarization (online notarization is $40 for the first document — $10 notarization fee + $30 technology platform fee — and $20 for each additional one).

Common questions

Usually not as primary ID; Venezuelan offices expect a cédula or passport. A certified, apostilled copy can support proof of address if specifically requested.
Florida notaries can only attest copies of documents that aren't public records certifiable by an official source, and FLHSMV certifies license records. Your sworn statement about the copy avoids that problem.
A certified driving record from FLHSMV: 3-year, 7-year or complete. It is a state agency document and can be apostilled as issued.
Yes. Choose international return at checkout: a flat $100 per order, tracked international shipping to any address in Venezuela. Shipping inside the U.S. is included.
Not on the U.S. side — no embassy or consulate legalization. Venezuela may still ask for a translation; as a rule it should be certified by the translator, notarized and apostilled too.
