Quick answer

A Dominican who divorces in Florida still appears married in the Junta Central Electoral's records until the divorce is recorded there, which matters for remarrying, selling property bought during the marriage, or showing a correct civil status at the DGM. One Florida apostille is all the U.S. side needs — $220, 5–7 business days.

How a Florida divorce decree is used in Dominican Republic

A Dominican who divorces in Florida still appears married in the Junta Central Electoral's records until the divorce is recorded there, which matters for remarrying, selling property bought during the marriage, or showing a correct civil status at the DGM. The Florida document is the final judgment, certified by the Clerk of Court with a wet-ink or official e-certification, then apostilled. The state fee for Clerk-certified records is $20, though our price doesn't change. Ask a Dominican lawyer or the JCE whether your case needs a Dominican court step before the registry will act.

Getting a divorce decree Florida will apostille

A complete copy of the final judgment of dissolution of marriage, certified by the Clerk of Court with an original wet-ink certification or the clerk's official e-certification. The state fee is $20 ($10 apostille + $10 certificate of incumbency), already in our price. If the receiving country accepts the one-page dissolution certificate instead, it must be signed by the State Registrar or a Clerk of the County Court and certified in 2014 or later.

Request a certified copy of the final judgment from the clerk of the county where the divorce was granted, online, by mail or at the courthouse; Florida law sets the clerk's certification fee at $2 plus copy charges, usually $1 per page. The dissolution certificate (divorces from June 6, 1927 on) can be ordered from the Bureau of Vital Statistics or through VitalChek. These fees are not included in our $220.

State fee for this document: $20 — included in our price. Full details on the divorce decree apostille page.

Who receives it in Dominican Republic — and translation

The Dirección General de Migración (DGM) handles residency and minors' exit permits. The Junta Central Electoral runs the civil registry through its Oficialías del Estado Civil and records births, marriages and deaths of Dominicans abroad, usually through the consulates. MESCyT recognizes higher-education degrees, the Dirección General de Impuestos Internos issues tax IDs and handles inheritance tax, and the Registro de Títulos records property transfers. MIREX authenticates Dominican documents, not Florida ones.

Dominican offices usually want the Spanish translation to carry its own apostille. The translator certifies the translation of the original and its apostille, a separate Florida notary notarizes that certification (the translator can't be the notary), and we apostille the notarized translation as a second document, so an original plus translation is our two-document price of $380. Some Dominican offices may instead want the translation made in the Dominican Republic; ask the office that will receive your file.

Minors' exit permits from the DGM are valid for 90 days once approved. For other documents, ask the receiving office how recent they must be; criminal-record certificates are the most time-sensitive, and freshly certified vital records avoid the pre-2014 signature problem.

  • Missing pages or attachments the foreign office needs, such as a settlement agreement
  • Divorce granted in another state

What it costs for Dominican Republic

$220 per document, $380 for two and $160 each for three or more — the state fee, request form, in-person filing in Tallahassee and FedEx shipping inside the U.S. are included. Shipping the finished apostille to Dominican Republic is a flat $100 per order.

Not included: whatever the issuing office charges for the certified copy or certificate, and notarization (online notarization is $40 for the first document — $10 notarization fee + $30 technology platform fee — and $20 for each additional one).

Common questions

Not until it's recorded with the Junta Central Electoral. Start with a Clerk-certified copy of the final judgment, apostilled, plus an apostilled Spanish translation, and ask whether a Dominican court step is needed first.
The decree is the full court judgment; the certificate is a one-page vital record that summarizes it. For remarriage or civil-status updates abroad, many authorities want the full judgment, so ask the receiving office before you order.
Documents certified by a Florida Clerk of Court cost $20 at the state: $10 for the apostille plus $10 for a certificate of incumbency confirming the clerk. Our $220 price already includes it.
Yes. Choose international return at checkout: a flat $100 per order, tracked international shipping to any address in Dominican Republic. Shipping inside the U.S. is included.
Not on the U.S. side — no embassy or consulate legalization. Dominican Republic may still ask for a translation; as a rule it should be certified by the translator, notarized and apostilled too.
