India doesn't have a Mexican- or Colombian-style exit permit for minors, so an apostilled travel consent letter for India is uncommon. One Florida apostille is all the U.S. side needs — $220, 5–7 business days.

India doesn't have a Mexican- or Colombian-style exit permit for minors, so an apostilled travel consent letter for India is uncommon. It comes up when a child travels with only one parent or with grandparents and an airline, school or relative wants written consent, or when a separated parent wants a formal record. In most of those cases a notarized letter is enough without an apostille. Apostille it only if an Indian authority or court asks for it, and keep the passport numbers and travel dates exact.

A specific letter naming the child, the consenting parent or parents, the accompanying adult, the destination and the travel dates, signed before a Florida notary with a complete notarial certificate (venue, presence or online box, date, ID type, seal). Names must match each passport exactly, and the dates must cover the actual trip.

Draft the letter yourself (Florida law prescribes no form), then sign before any Florida notary or through our online notarization add-on, where each parent can sign separately from wherever they are: $40 for the first document ($10 notarization fee + $30 technology platform fee) and $20 for each additional document. Notarization is not included in our $220. Many trips need only a notarized letter, so confirm the apostille is actually required.

State fee for this document: $10 — included in our price. Full details on the child travel consent letter apostille page.

Who receives it in India — and translation

The OCI system and the Consulate General of India in Atlanta (which serves Florida) handle OCI and consular matters; sub-registrars and state stamp authorities handle property documents; Indian banks handle KYC and inheritance claims; the Ministry of Corporate Affairs handles company filings; Marriage Officers handle Special Marriage Act weddings; and CARA handles adoptions from India.

Florida documents are in English, which Indian authorities use, so translation is rarely needed. When a document is in another language, our rule applies: a translation certified by the translator, notarized by a different notary and apostilled in Florida. The OCI FAQ asks for an authorized English translation only for certificates not in English.

India has no general expiry for apostilled documents. Specific timing rules apply instead, such as stamping a power of attorney within three months after it first reaches India; banks and courts may also want recently issued copies.

Common questions

Usually not. India has no general exit-permit rule for minors; a notarized consent letter often satisfies airlines. Apostille it only if an Indian authority asks.
No. Airlines and border officers are often satisfied with a notarized letter. You need the apostille when a foreign authority relies on it in a formal procedure, such as a dual-national child leaving that country or a passport or residency application filed abroad.
The parent or parents who are not traveling. If the child travels with neither parent, both sign. A parent with sole custody signs alone and carries the certified custody order.
Yes. Choose international return at checkout: a flat $100 per order, tracked international shipping to any address in India. Shipping inside the U.S. is included.
Not on the U.S. side — no embassy or consulate legalization. India may still ask for a translation; as a rule it should be certified by the translator, notarized and apostilled too.
