How a Florida passport copy is used in Argentina
Migraciones and the consulates work from your original passport, so an apostilled copy doesn't replace it at an appointment. Where a certified copy helps is with private parties in Argentina: an escribano preparing a deed, a bank opening an account for a non-resident, or a lawyer filing for you while you stay in Florida. A Florida notary can make an attested copy of your passport, and we apostille the notary's certificate. Make the copy show the photo page clearly, and ask whether the escribano also wants the copy translated.
Getting a passport copy Florida will apostille
A clear copy of the photo page (and any other pages requested) with a complete Florida certificate in English: the attested-copy certificate, or a jurat on your sworn statement. A stamp and signature with no wording, or a copy notarized in another state, will not work.
Present your passport to a Florida notary for an attested copy (an individual notary may decline), or sign a sworn statement before any Florida notary or through our online notarization add-on: $40 for the first document ($10 notarization fee + $30 technology platform fee) and $20 for each additional document. Never mail your passport. Notarization is not included in our $220.
State fee for this document: $10 — included in our price. Full details on the passport copy apostille page.
Who receives it in Argentina — and translation
The Dirección Nacional de Migraciones handles residence (applications start online in RaDEX and finish in person). Argentine consulates in the U.S. handle the opción de nacionalidad and can also take poderes. The Registro Civil of each jurisdiction registers foreign records, and in Buenos Aires City foreign divorces and adoptions are registered on an Argentine court's order. Degree revalidation goes to national public universities, and escribanos and courts receive powers of attorney and estate documents.
Our general rule is a translation certified by the translator, notarized by a separate notary and apostilled in Florida, but Argentina instead requires an in-country professional for official filings. Under Law 20.305, foreign-language documents filed with Argentine authorities need a Spanish translation by a registered traductor público, and Migraciones and the Buenos Aires Registro Civil also want the Colegio de Traductores to legalize the translator's signature. Get the Florida apostille first so the traductor público translates the apostille page too.
Argentina doesn't publish one freshness rule for every foreign document. Criminal-record certificates are the most time-sensitive, so order them last and ask Migraciones or the consulate how recent they must be; for vital records, a freshly certified copy avoids the pre-2014 signature problem anyway.
