Quick answer

To marry in Türkiye, a foreign national needs a certificate of no impediment, called bekarlık belgesi or evlenme ehliyet belgesi. One Florida apostille is all the U.S. side needs — $220, 5–7 business days.

How a Florida single status affidavit is used in Turkey

To marry in Türkiye, a foreign national needs a certificate of no impediment, called bekarlık belgesi or evlenme ehliyet belgesi. Melikgazi municipality's marriage office, for example, says it must come from the competent authorities of your country, carry an apostille, have a Turkish translation approved by a notary, and be no older than 6 months (180 days). If it doesn't list your parents' names, a birth certificate is also required. Florida doesn't issue a government certificate, so ask whether a notarized, apostilled affidavit is accepted.

Getting a single status affidavit Florida will apostille

A sworn affidavit with a complete Florida jurat stating that you are not married and are free to marry and, if you were married before, the date, place and court or record that ended that marriage. Names must match your passport, and it must be signed within the window the foreign registry allows.

Use the registry's template if it has one, then swear to it before a Florida notary or through our online notarization add-on: $40 for the first document ($10 notarization fee + $30 technology platform fee) and $20 for each additional document. First confirm that the country accepts a notarized affidavit rather than a consular or government-issued status certificate. Notarization is not included in our $220.

State fee for this document: $10 — included in our price. Full details on the single status affidavit apostille page.

Who receives it in Turkey — and translation

Turkish consulates register civil-status events in Türkiye's civil registry (nüfus). In Türkiye, the Presidency of Migration Management handles residence permits, the land registry (Tapu) handles property, notaries and civil courts of peace issue certificates of inheritance, municipal marriage offices handle weddings, YÖK handles degree equivalence, and the trade registry handles companies. The Consulate General of Türkiye in Miami serves Florida.

Turkish offices expect a Turkish translation. Turkish consulates in the U.S. accept a translation by a sworn translator, certified by a U.S. notary and apostilled, which matches our rule: certified by the translator, notarized by a different notary and apostilled in Florida. In Türkiye, a sworn translator's translation approved by a Turkish notary is the alternative. Ask the Turkish consulate in Miami whether the translator must be registered on its list.

Municipal marriage offices commonly treat documents as valid for 6 months (180 days). Other offices set their own limits, so order fresh certified copies close to filing.

Why single status affidavits get rejected

  • Signed too long before the wedding date
  • Earlier marriage left out, or listed without how it ended
  • Acknowledgment instead of a jurat
  • Country required a consular or government-issued status document

What it costs for Turkey

$220 per document, $380 for two and $160 each for three or more — the state fee, request form, in-person filing in Tallahassee and FedEx shipping inside the U.S. are included. Shipping the finished apostille to Turkey is a flat $100 per order.

Not included: whatever the issuing office charges for the certified copy or certificate, and notarization (online notarization is $40 for the first document — $10 notarization fee + $30 technology platform fee — and $20 for each additional one).

Common questions

Turkish municipal marriage offices commonly apply a 6-month (180-day) limit. Melikgazi's checklist states it explicitly, so sign the affidavit close to the wedding.
No. The Bureau of Vital Statistics issues certified copies of marriage and divorce records that exist, not a certificate saying you are unmarried. A sworn affidavit before a Florida notary is the usual substitute.
Usually a certified copy of your divorce judgment from the Clerk of Court, apostilled separately. The affidavit plus the divorce decree are two documents: $380 together.
Yes. Choose international return at checkout: a flat $100 per order, tracked international shipping to any address in Turkey. Shipping inside the U.S. is included.
Not on the U.S. side — no embassy or consulate legalization. Turkey may still ask for a translation; as a rule it should be certified by the translator, notarized and apostilled too.
